PHARMACY TECHNICIAN

Pharmacy technicians are skilled professionals qualified through education to perform duties to assist pharmacists in a variety of pharmacy settings such as hospitals and retail pharmacies. The responsibilities of a pharmacy technician can include preparing IV admixtures, tube feedings, investigational drugs, controlled substances, and cytotoxic/hazardous medications. They also assist with functions required for prescription processing including answering telephones, taking refill orders, receiving and entering prescriptions into the computer system, selecting medications and preparing prescriptions for the pharmacist's final check. PHLEBOTOMY

Phlebotomists draw blood for tests, transfusions, research, or blood donations. Some of them explain their work to patients and provide assistance if patients have adverse reactions after their blood is drawn.

QMA

The role of a QMA involves administering both prescription and non-prescription medications to patients and then monitoring their reactions, all under the supervision of a licensed nurse. QMAs start out as CNAs, so they already have specialized training in direct patient care. After earning a certain amount of experience as a CNA (usually around 1,000 hours), those wishing to become a QMA must complete approximately 100 hours of extra training in pharmacology and medication knowledge and pass a written exam to become licensed. Typically, around half of the training involves supervised medication administration
